I am currently working for my PhD in Chemistry at a University in England. I have decided to start writing this blog because a lot of the material I read in journals and the more accessible press is unfortunately not suitable for my thesis; however I do find it (more??) interesting and sometimes (always) want to discuss it.

There is a wealth of research being done across the globe which is reported in the various academic journals on the subject, as well as in the more popular science magazines we all (!!!just me???) love to read (NewScientist, Scientific American, National Geographic). The huge bonus of my writing this blog is that it allows me to comment on a very broad subject area, on the more main-stream material that appeals to my less academic side, and more to my flat-out curiosity. After all,I can’t write about the new iMac (9th Aug 2007 ;) ) in my thesis, can I??!!

As an aside, my field of interest for this blog is predominantly Plastic Electronics. This application of functionalized conjugated materials has seen a massive growth in the past two or three decades and is showing no signs of abatement. In all honesty it is just getting started. It is fascinating. NO, REALLY! Floppy roll-out flat screens anyone? 6TB iPods?? FASCINATING!!!

Anyway, I hope this blog allows you some access to the science behind the technology ( /ace gadgets ) we are all going to be living with in the future, as well as informing you on some of the latest science-based developments.

Please feel free to leave comments; whether you enjoy the site or not, all comments are appreciated.

It should be noted that the opinions expressed here do not reflect the staff of the University I attend, nor the Department of Chemistry or the University as an institute. My university doesn’t have an opinion on dual input touch screen development. Or cheap accomodation.
